Annamalai University is a residential school which is renowned all over the world for the quality education provided. The university is located in Annamalai Nagar, which is to the east of Chidambaram (which was the abode of Lord Nataraja). Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar and his philanthropic ideas and wisdom are the foundation of the university. In the year 1920 Sir Annamalai Chettiar laid the foundation of Sri Meenakshi College. In 1928 the state government of Madras passed an act forming the Annamalai University and Sri Meenakshi College formed the core of this university. The Annamalai University has now extended to Toronto, Dubai and Sharjah. The university has 48 departments under its hood. Annamalai University distance education is famous globally. There are four hundred and one courses under the distance education regular stream. Annamalai University distance education program boasts of having the record of highest number of students enrolled.

 

The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) was established in 1979. The infrastructure is good and the Directorate is well equipped with computers. The DDE has an autonomous administrative set up. The teaching faculty is adequate and has good knowledge of their subject. For the convenience of the students enrolled in Annamalai University distance education courses, the university has a number of computer training centers and study centers. The university has strived to provide its huge student clientele all the services of the best quality and that too at their doorstep. The Annamalai University distance education is also accredited with a unique benchmark of being the first to offer a post graduate program in a few areas (named below) via the distance learning mode in India. Annamalai University distance education

 

With so many centers spread all over India the Directorate of Distance Education has tried its best to ensure that the students under the Annamalai University distance education program face no problems or inconvenience. The study centers are open on all weekdays from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm and 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm. The timings for Sunday are 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. All the centers except that at Annamalainagar stay closed on every second Monday of every month and on all Tuesdays and on all Public Holidays.

The fees structure for the students of Annamalai University distance education includes the tuition fees, examination fee (for every paper), mark list fee, pass certificate fee, center fee, etc. The payment mode of the fees has been strictly specified as demand draft only (from specified bank). Other modes like cheques, pay orders, postal orders and money orders are strictly prohibited and will not be accepted under any circumstances. Under the rules and regulations of the Annamalai University distance education it is also mentioned that once the payment of the fees is made it will not be refunded, transferred or adjusted under any circumstances.

The examinations are help for a period of time. The students can chose any centre according to their convenience and appear for the exam at that center. Incase the conduction of examination at a particular examination becomes impossible due to unavoidable circumstances then the candidate will be allowed to appear for the exam at the nearest centre. Any student appearing for an examination of any course in Annamalai University distance education program has to first pay the examination fees that it specified by the Directorate of Distance Education. One can appear in the exams only after all their dues are clear. After the payment of the fee, an intimation card is posted to the candidate. With this card the candidate can collect the hall ticket (admit card) from the test centre. Once the results are declared and published the Marks Statement and pass certificate is posted to the student. The Annamalai University distance education program has no provision for revaluation of the answer sheets. There is only provision for totaling of the marks on the payment of a fee of Rs.300 per paper which has to be made within 15 days of the dispatch of the marks statement. Students are permitted to appear for improvement exams only once. This provision is made for those candidates who wish to improve their score. If the candidate succeeds in improving the score a new statement of marks will be issued to the candidate.
