The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) was established as a unit in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The Air India Kanishka bombing in 1985 led to the BCAS functioning as an independent body in the year 1987. The Bureau, today, is responsible for the framing and implementation of aviation security guidelines at all domestic and International airports of India.
